THE 2018 JAPANESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARS

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Research and Technology (MEXT)offers scholarships to international students who want to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate students beneath the Japanese Federal government (MEXT) Scholarship Plan for 2019.

Scholarship Benefits/Durations:

The scholarship includes tuition and various other fees, allowance of 117,000 yen monthly, yet another monthly stipend of 2,000 or 3,000 yen may be provided to those undertaking research or study in specifically designated regions, and travel costs to and from Japan.  From April 2019 to March 2024 the scholarship period can last for five years, including one-season preparatory education in Japanese language and other topics due to be supplied upon arrival in Japan.

Eligibility:

(1) Nationality: Applicants will need to have the nationality of a nation which has diplomatic relations with Japan. A candidate who has Japanese nationality at the time of application isn't eligible. However, people with dual nationality who keep Japanese nationality and whose place of residence during application is beyond Japan are eligible to use provided that they pick the nationality of the international country and present up their Japanese nationality by the day of their arrival in Japan. Applicant screening will be conducted at Japanese diplomatic mission in the applicant’s country

(2) Age: Applicants, in principle, between April 2 will need to have been born, April 1, 1994, and, 2002.

Other than the over 1 and 2 conditions, applicants who meet the criteria for enrollment in a Japanese university at the proper time of application.
(4) Japanese Language: Applicants should be ready to learn Japanese. Candidates should be interested in Japan and become ready to deepen their knowledge of Japan after arriving in Japan. Furthermore, in principle, applicants should be willing to perform their academic research in Japan in Japanese.

(5) Health: Applicants need to submit a health certificate in the recommended format signed by your physician attesting that the applicant does not have any physical or mental conditions hindering the applicant’s research in Japan.

(6) Arrival in Japan: In principle, of April 2019 candidates must be able to arrive in Japan between the 1st and 7th. If a candidate is to sign up in his/her university from the fall semester through immediate placement, he/she should be able to get to Japan through the period specified by the accepting university inside a fortnight before and following the starting time of the university’s relevant educational term for that calendar year.

(7) Visa Requirement: A candidate shall, in principle, get yourself a “Student” visa in Japanese diplomatic mission located in the applicant’s nation of nationality, and enter Japan with the home status of “Student.”
